Evaluation
This unit has tested my imagination, when I thought of evidence at the beginning of this unit, crime scenes came to mind, I did two of these crime scenes over the course of the unit but then I didn't know what to. So i began looking into human presence through rubbish found on the ground, shadows, and then i expanded that idea and created all kinds of stuff. From bottles scattered around Harlow Town centre to a tree covered in bits of rubbish such as cans, bags and string.
From this unit I think it has opened up my mind a bit to the definition of certain words, it's helped me to think outside the box and loo at the strange rather than the regular. I feel as if I have a wide range of different shoots, a lot of my shoots are very different from each other each showing a different aspect of the idea of evidence.
In my first shoot, I went out across Harlow Town taking photos of rubbish that people have left behind, this was anything from fags to wrappers. This didn't go amazingly well intact I wasn't happy with the outcome, from here I feel as if I have improved incredibly in the way my work has progressed.
In my second shoot I did something similar to my first, but I went on to make it much better, I got better photos and overall was happy with the outcome at the end the session. From here I went on to advance my ideas and take a different approach to evidence.
For my third shoot, I went into the studio and created a crime scene/crime in action, I took two models and was able to get them to act out a crime, one was the killer the other the victim. This went really well, I used paint and scissors to create the crime scene and the black background added an eerie atmosphere to the images, this is one of my favourite shoots.
My fourth shoot was moving on from my third using the same idea of a crime scene I created a hit and run, again with two models, a car and a quite neighbourhood. This again went really well, I was really happy with the photos and editing them came out really well. After this I wouldn't revisit the idea of a crime scene again but I was happy with the final outcome.
My fifth shoot went back to my first two, this time though I took loads of photos and was able to gather lots of ideas from it. From this shoot it gave me the idea of manipulating rubbish and using different objects to portray human presence. I was really happy with this shoot as the photos came out well and gave me lots of ideas to improve.
For my sixth shoot I took my bag and placed it in different locations taking a photo at each location, I used this to show evidence of movement and how people move about through different places, within a forest and a street.
My seventh shoot was similar but this time I used a bottle and put it in loads of different locations, I improved on my last shoot as I was bale to put the bottle in better locations and overall get really good photos.
My eighth shoot was of a tree, I went into a forest and took pictures of a tree that I'd covered in bags and bits of rubbish. This went really well, I was really happy with how the photos turned out, it gave sense of mystery, this was the origin of my final exam, as I really enjoyed doing this and I believe it gave me loads of new and exciting photos.
My ninth shoot was the evidence of emotion, I used a model and had a conversation with her, throughout this conversation I proceeded to take photos of her expressing her emotions to the subjects we spoke about, this went well but I wasn't overly happy with the outcome of this shoot.
For my Final shoot I used the studio to take photos of peoples shadows in ordered to create a better way of proving human presence. This went well and I was happy with the outcome but didn't want to revisit this idea.
For my exam I went into a forest and expanded on my eighth shoot, I made a massive maze out of rubbish and string, I feel as if this went really well, I throughly enjoyed doing this as I took many photos which all came out really well, I was able to move the rubbish to different locations and create weird sculptures using a mix of the rubbish and wildlife.

To summarise this unit I found it to be tough at times but at the same time fun and challenging, I fell like I can take a lot away from this unit that will help me develop my ideas for next year. This unit has been a bit hectic but overall has been throughly enjoyable and I've learned a lot about developing ideas, thinking outside the box and using the regular in irregular ways.
Connecting Essay 5
Connecting Essay
This image is from the internet and very clearly we can see a cigarette rested upon what looks like a wall, the cigarette is pointing away from the wall and is continuing to burn itself down to the butt. The image isn't massively intriguing but still raises some questions, for example how did it get there, who does it belong to and is there a specific reason for it pointing away from the wall, is there something off in the distance.
This is my image, here a cigarette has been placed on a tree, the image itself is full up of forest the only abnormality is the cigarette itself, in a way this can symbolise the harm of smoking as a person having a cigarette effects the wildlife and the smoke pollutes the air. This can also show the harm of people littering, littering is damaging the wildlife just as smoking harms people.
The two images have some similarities, obviously the way they look is pretty similar as both cigarettes have been placed on something, the background is rather blurred and uninteresting, and maybe both send a similar message about smoking, whether is be how damaging it is. Perhaps that's why there are no models, maybe the cigarettes are whats left of smokers after a long time.

This photo by Amy Spanos, is rather surreal, the atmosphere in the image is eerie and almost like a fantasy. Everything about this photo tells me that the model is conducting a ritual of some sorts, this adds suspense and mystery. Using bleak colours in the background and towards the front of the image brighter colours such as the fire has an effect of the image being in two parts almost.
This is my picture, here I've got a model messing around with bits of rubbish on a forest floor, she is picking them up and placing them in her bag. I feel like this creates suspense and mystery as you wonder why she is doing this or what she is doing here. The smoke floating across the image ads to the mystery of the image.
The two images above are similar with certain factors on the image, both models seem to be doing something odd within the forest, perhaps both are conducting rituals. Both images use fire/smoke to add to the mystery of the image, this brings depth into the image and possibly a story behind the images.

This image was taken from the internet, here you can see a person whose face has been smoothed over or cloned over using another part of the body. I think this look is really cool, it adds so much to the picture, perhaps a loss of identity and someone who doesn't quite know who they are yet, there could be so many reasons to why the artists removed the models face, from looking at the picture we can see that the model is in a calm position, perhaps thinking about something which again could link to the idea of lost identity or trying to find one.
This is my image and here i decided to remove the faces of my models, I used this picture to portray this effect as i felt it could add mystery and story to the image, for example the both the victim and the murderer are faceless this could symbolise unfinished cases within the police force or crimes that aren't spoken about for whatever reasons.
Between the two photos we can see the similarity as all models are faceless, along with this both were taken in a studio using a black background, both pictures create mystery using the faceless effect. Theres a story behind both photos and although possibly very different stories they are able to create the same effect on the viewer and give them questions that will leave the viewer intrigued.
