Research Log




Steven Staggs


Staggs has been a forensic photography instructor for 30 years and has released 2 books on the matter, one of which involves a lot of his own photography from crime scenes. 



Elliott Erwitt


Erwitt has some sense of evidence in his work, like the image below has clear evidence of racism within America and this continues throughout his work.


David LaChapelle


LaChapelle's work involves a lot of destruction in a sophisticated way, the destruction is clearle evidence of what used to be.


Robert Capa


Capa's work revolves a lot around the second world war and this makes it evidence of the atrocities of war. 


Robert Frank


Similar to Erwitt's work, Frank focuses on the depravity of Americans within the 50s and 60s, showing racism and differences between other status classes. 


Mary Ellen Mark


Mark's photography shows what it's like to be living on the road, always travelling with a group (circus) or just yourself, she shows evidence of hardship.


Taryn Simon


Simon shows evidence of danger in her photos with real life dangers of wildlife, the unknown and the dead.

Tery Ratcliff


Ratcliff's photos are phenomenal in colour and contrast, I believe it really shows evidence of incredible architecture.  



Don McCullin


McCullin is very similar to Capa due to the fact that they both show the horrors of war and show evidence of fear in the ideas of soldiers.


Chase Jarvis


Jarvis' photography is evidence of what happens when people push towards something they love, it shows the passion and dedication as a result. 




William Klien 


Klien's work shows evidence of what people could do, from children with handguns to adults pointing them at children.



Adam Pretty


Pretty's work shows evidence of physical achievement with athletes preforming to the best of their ability.


Herb Ritts


Ritts' work consist of portraits of beauty, evidence of beauty is shown through out his work even taking photos of Jack Nichoson's Joker


Helmut Newton


Newton's work shows evidence of woman being sexualised, with public nudity and woman in sexual situations.


Andreas Gursky

Gursky's photos are always of many things, hundreds of items of people, evidence of  'many'.


Nick Knight


Knight shows evidence of colour throughout his work, the weird portraits are held together with his use of colour.


Joe McNally


McNally's work shows evidence of people at work, from firefighters to pilots.


Art Wolfe


Evidence shown throughout Wolfe's work is nature, animals and wildlife.


Herbert List


List shows many images of nudity and sexualisation of people, through both genders he shows the evidence of sex.


Steve McCurry


McCurry's work shows privation deprivation throughout third world countries, children starving, with weapons and not enough to keep them warm.
